On August 2, 1977, three-year-old Jesse J. Davidson vanished from Seward, Alaska, along with Carolyn Davidson and John Davidson. The young boy, a Caucasian male, was approximately 36 inches tall and weighed 32 pounds at the time he went missing. He was last seen wearing a yellow poncho. The family had embarked on a boat trip from the coastal town of Seward with the destination of Driftwood Bay. Their journey across the Alaskan waters marked the beginning of a mysterious and long-unsolved disappearance that would leave a lasting impact on the community. The family was traveling in a 16-18 foot wooden skiff. The boat was described as being heavily built with a flat bottom and was painted a dark gray with a blue cast to it. It was powered by two outboard motors attached to the rear. This type of vessel was common for navigating the local waterways, but this particular skiff, carrying the three members of the Davidson family, disappeared without a trace into the vast and often treacherous maritime landscape of the Kenai Peninsula. Neither the boat nor any of its equipment has ever been recovered from the sea. Following their failure to arrive at Driftwood Bay, an extensive search was initiated by the Alaska State Troopers and other agencies. Searchers combed the waters and shorelines along the boat's intended route, looking for any sign of the missing family or their skiff. Despite the comprehensive nature of the search, the efforts yielded no results. The complete lack of debris or any personal belongings has left investigators with very few clues to piece together what might have happened. The disappearance of Jesse, Carolyn, and John Davidson remains an unresolved case, a poignant story of a family lost to the sea, with lingering questions about their final moments and ultimate fate.
