Jacquelyn 'Daisy Lynn' Landry, an 18-year-old from Lafayette, Louisiana, vanished on May 23, 2017. She was last seen in the vicinity of Kaliste Saloom and Farrel roads, leaving her residence with a friend. Jacquelyn, who had light brown, shoulder-length wavy hair and blue eyes, was on her way to a party at a friend's house but never made it. It was unusual for her to leave without notifying anyone, and her phone was turned off shortly after she was last seen.
At the time of her disappearance, she was wearing a green army jacket, jeans, brown sandals, and a sunflower hair bow, and was carrying an Adidas backpack. She has distinct tattoos: a Chinese symbol above her right breast and a small triangle on the inside of her right wrist, as well as a burn mark on the outside of her left forearm.
The investigation into Jacquelyn's disappearance quickly shifted from a missing person's case to a homicide investigation. Just over a week after she was last seen, on May 31, 2017, authorities arrested 22-year-old Malik Sheron Davis and charged him with second-degree murder in connection with her case. Although Jacquelyn's body had not been found, evidence discovered by detectives led them to believe she was the victim of foul play. Davis had a history of criminal activity, including drug charges and theft. The case progressed with this initial charge, as volunteer crews and law enforcement continued to search for Jacquelyn, hoping to bring her home.
Further investigation revealed a grim sequence of events on the day Jacquelyn disappeared, leading to additional arrests and plea bargains. According to Malik Davis, he and Jacquelyn used methamphetamine before going to his home, where his roommates, Devan Dufour and Matthew Perez, were present. After Jacquelyn allegedly became erratic, Dufour injected her with heroin. Davis later found her without a pulse and cold to the touch. Instead of seeking medical help, the three men reportedly disposed of the drugs and needle, wrapped Jacquelyn's body in a shower curtain and sleeping bag, and placed it in a garbage can for pickup. Her body was never recovered, despite extensive searches of the local landfill. In August 2019, the murder charge against Davis was dropped as part of a plea deal in which he pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice and was sentenced to ten years in prison. Dufour and Perez were also charged with obstruction of justice. Devan Dufour died in January 2021 after being struck by a vehicle. In August 2021, Matthew Perez pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice.
