On 3/17/2023 the Yuma County Sheriff's Office contacted the Medical Examiner's Office in reference to skeletal remains located in the desert area southeast of Tacna, Arizona, northwest of the North Pinta Tank. The remains were initially located by Deputy Bermudez and members of the National Guard conducting patrols in the area of the Cabeza Prieta Wildlife Refuge.
