In the quiet community of Lee's Summit, Missouri, a White family's life was irrevocably shattered on the afternoon of June 9, 2022, when violence erupted within their home on Northeast Oakwood Drive. Jennifer Lynn Trenchard, a 37-year-old professional photographer known for her adventurous spirit and travel images, was found deceased at the scene alongside her younger brother, 33-year-old David Trenchard. Police officers responded to the residence just before 3:00 p.m.
following reports of a shooting, initially described by neighbors as sounds resembling fireworks.
Upon entering the home, investigators discovered a tragic scene of domestic violence. Jennifer and David had both sustained fatal gunshot wounds. The investigation quickly determined that their father, 69-year-old William Trenchard, was the sole perpetrator of the attack. After shooting his two adult children, William turned the weapon on himself in an attempted murder-suicide. When authorities arrived, he was found alive but suffering from critical, life-threatening injuries. He was immediately transported to a local hospital and placed on life support.
The Lee's Summit Police Department classified the incident as a double murder-suicide attempt and confirmed that no other suspects were being sought in connection with the deaths. For two days, the surviving suspect remained hospitalized in critical condition, precluding any immediate arrest or formal filing of charges. On June 11, 2022, William Trenchard succumbed to his self-inflicted injuries and died, effectively closing the case without a criminal trial or conviction. Jennifer was remembered by her community and loved ones for her artistic talent and her close bond with her brother, who often accompanied her on photography trips around the world.
