On the morning of Friday, April 20, 2018, Chantille Truss, a 45-year-old female, was fatally shot by her husband in a tragic murder-suicide. The incident began to unfold at approximately 7:39 a.m. at the Sola Salon Studios in Lee's Summit, Missouri, where Chantille worked as a hairdresser. Her husband, 51-year-old Paul Truss, entered the salon and opened fire, killing his wife at her place of work.
To those who knew them, the violent act was a complete shock, as the couple had been
married for 25 years and were often described as having the 'perfect' marriage. Family and friends expressed their disbelief, stating that from the outside, they appeared to be a happy couple. However, some accounts suggest there may have been underlying issues, including 'jealous spurts' exhibited by Paul over the years. One friend speculated that the couple might have been heading towards a separation. Tragically, Paul Truss had a personal history with this type of violence, as one of his sisters had been killed by her husband about a decade prior.
After killing Chantille, Paul Truss fled the scene in his vehicle. Information from a witness at the salon led authorities to his location about five miles away, in a parking lot near Longview Lake. As law enforcement officers approached the vehicle, Paul Truss died by a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The Jackson County Sheriff's Office confirmed his death, bringing a somber end to the domestic dispute that had escalated to a devastating conclusion.
