On the evening of August 30, 2022, a violent altercation erupted in the suburban community of Moline Acres, Missouri, located within St. Louis County. At approximately 8:01 p.m., local law enforcement officers were dispatched to the 9700 block of Portage Drive following reports of a shooting. Upon arriving at the scene, which was situated in a residential neighborhood west of Lewis and Clark Boulevard, first responders discovered two adult males suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
Both victims were urgently transported to area hospitals for medical treatment. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, 46-year-old Jerusal LaShon Cooper succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased. The second man involved in the incident, whose identity was not immediately released to the public, was treated for his injuries and was expected to survive.
Detectives with the St. Louis County Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Bureau assumed control of the homicide investigation from the Moline Acres police. Preliminary inquiries revealed that the gunfire had stemmed from an argument between Cooper and the other man. Authorities stated following the incident that they were not seeking any additional suspects in connection with the case, indicating the dispute was contained to the two individuals found at the scene.
