On July 7, 2014, 49-year-old Michael J. Hall, a Black male, was found deceased in a residence on the 6100 block of Patoka Lake Drive in Indianapolis, Indiana. Police discovered his body alongside that of a 46-year-old woman, DeAnna Brooks. The discovery was made around 3:00 p.m. after officers responded to the scene, where they encountered a running vehicle in the garage and detected high levels of carbon monoxide within the home.
Investigators determined that Michael Hall had sustained a gunshot wound to the head. In contrast, DeAnna Brooks showed no visible signs of trauma, leading authorities to suspect her death was related to carbon monoxide poisoning from the vehicle left running in the attached garage. The circumstances at the scene prompted detectives to initially classify the incident as a possible murder-suicide, with evidence suggesting the events were contained within the home.
There were no reports of outside suspects being sought in connection with the deaths, and no arrests were made following the discovery. The investigation focused on the theory that the deaths were the result of a domestic incident involving the two individuals found inside the residence.
