On the afternoon of September 2, 2009, police in Bedford, Indiana, responded to a violent scene at the Ridgewood Apartment Complex on the 3300 block of Michael Avenue. Officers arrived to find 35-year-old Jason Lee Joy lying face down in the street, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Joy, a white male from Lawrence County, had been working on a vehicle outside the complex when the attack occurred. Despite the immediate response of emergency services, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
