On the cold night of January 4, 2014, in Lawrence, Indiana, a promising young life was tragically cut short. Kyle Jobin, a 19-year-old male college student, was home on winter break from Vincennes University. Just after 2:30 a.m., he made a quick trip to a Marathon gas station located on 56th Street near Interstate 465 to buy a pack of cigarettes. As he returned to his car, a simple errand turned into a nightmare. Four young men in hoods emerged from behind the gas station and surrounded his vehicle.
A witness saw the men, described as four Black males between the ages of 16 and 22, shaking Jobin's car and trying to get inside. Fleeing to find help, the witness located a police officer. However, by the time they returned to the scene, it was too late. Kyle Jobin had been shot in the head, and his attackers had vanished. His cell phone was also missing from the vehicle. The suspects were seen fleeing in a white SUV, possibly a Ford Expedition. Jobin was rushed to the hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries.
In the years that have followed, the investigation into Kyle Jobin's murder has remained open but unsolved. Despite numerous pleas from the Lawrence Police Department and Jobin's heartbroken family, no arrests have been made, and the identities of the four individuals responsible remain a mystery. The case was hampered by the location of Jobin's car in the gas station's parking lot, which was a blind spot for the security cameras at the time.
Kyle's family has worked tirelessly to keep his memory alive and to seek justice for their son. They have put up billboards and organized memorial motorcycle rides to generate leads and remind the public that his killers are still at large. They, along with law enforcement, continue to hold out hope that someone will come forward with the crucial piece of information that will finally bring closure to a family forever shattered by a senseless act of violence.
