In the spring of 2015, the life of 41-year-old Guiseppi Bailey was tragically cut short in South Bend, Indiana. On the evening of May 17th, what began as a carjacking and robbery escalated into a fatal encounter for the South Bend resident. Another individual was carjacked, with the perpetrator running over his legs before driving a short distance and then attempting to rob Bailey. During the course of this second crime, Bailey was shot once in the chest.
Authorities who responded to a call about a man with a gunshot wound on North Manchester Drive found Bailey, along with the car and wallet from the initial carjacking, nearby.
For years, the case remained unresolved, leaving a void in the lives of his family and friends who remembered him as a man who enjoyed playing guitar and cherished spending time with his children. The investigation into the seemingly random act of violence continued, with witnesses providing information over time that would ultimately lead to a breakthrough.
In April 2024, nearly nine years after the incident, the St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office announced charges against Ddrea Bostic, then 26 years old, in connection with Bailey's death. At the time the charges were filed, Bostic was already incarcerated, serving a 105-year sentence for the 2021 murder of a local social worker. Court documents revealed that a witness had identified Bostic as being involved as early as 2016. Another witness came forward in 2023, leading to Bostic being questioned again, during which he allegedly admitted to the killing. The motive for the shooting, according to court documents, was that Bailey had recognized Bostic.
Ddrea Bostic was charged with five counts, including murder, felony murder in the commission of a felony, robbery resulting in bodily injury, attempted robbery, and a felony firearm use sentencing enhancement. The charges brought a long-awaited step towards justice for Guiseppi Bailey and his loved ones, marking a significant development in a case that had remained cold for years.
