On a summer evening in Noblesville, Indiana, the life of Robert Keith McCauley, a 49-year-old male, came to a tragic end. On June 21, 2015, police responded to a 911 call reporting a person threatening self-harm at McCauley's residence. When they arrived, they found him in his backyard. Despite their efforts, McCauley died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. His death was ruled a suicide, and as a result, there were no arrests made or suspects sought in connection with the incident.
The Noblesville Police Department confirmed there had been no prior calls to his home.
Born in Louisville, Kentucky, on August 9, 1965, McCauley had built a distinguished career in law enforcement. He began as a volunteer reserve with the Marion County Sheriff's Department in 2000 and transitioned to a full-time role, graduating with honors from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy in 2005. He served as a Road Deputy until the merger with the Indianapolis Police Department, creating the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department. In January 2015, he was promoted to the position of Detective with the Robbery/Aggravated Assault Unit. He was known for his dedication and for treating everyone he encountered with fairness.
McCauley was also an active member of the Gunfighters Motorcycle Club, a national and international organization for active and retired law enforcement officers. His passing was a significant loss to his colleagues, friends, and family. Those who knew him remembered his passion for his work, as well as his love for his dogs, motorcycles, and UK basketball. The circumstances leading to his death were deeply personal, as his wife had filed for divorce just days prior.
