A quiet Christmas Day in Noblesville, Indiana, was shattered by a tragic event that claimed the lives of three family members. On December 25, 2017, 84-year-old Donald Moon, a White male, and his 81-year-old wife, Joyce Moon, were found deceased in their home. The couple had lived in their ranch-style house on 191st Street for over four decades. A family member visiting for the holiday made the grim discovery.
The investigation by the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office revealed a grim
sequence of events. Authorities concluded that the couple's 48-year-old son, Todd Moon, who also resided at the home with his two young children, was the perpetrator. An argument between Todd and his mother on Christmas afternoon escalated to a horrific act of violence. In a fit of rage, Todd retrieved a handgun and shot both of his parents. Following the murders, Todd Moon then turned the weapon on himself, ending his own life.
The coroner's report confirmed that Donald and Joyce Moon died from multiple gunshot wounds, while Todd Moon died from a single, self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Investigators found no prior history of domestic violence or mental illness within the family, and there was no evidence to suggest that alcohol or drugs were involved. Todd Moon's sister had been called to the home earlier that day by her brother to pick up his children due to an argument. She arrived to find her brother enraged and witnessed him shoot their mother before she fled with the children and sought help. She reported hearing more gunshots as she left. The case was determined to be a double murder-suicide, and with the suspect deceased, no arrests were made.
