On October 4, 2015, Coriana D. Johnson, aged 17, was killed alongside her best friend Makayla Mitchell, aged 18, in Indianapolis. The two teenagers were shot in a violent incident on the city's west side. Police reports indicated that both victims were found with fatal gunshot wounds after an altercation escalated. The shooting was part of a weekend that saw multiple violent incidents across Indianapolis.
