Jesus Sandoval, a 35-year-old resident of San Francisco, was tragically shot and killed on July 10, 2017, in the Mission District near the 24th Street BART station. The incident took place at approximately 2:30 a.m. outside El Farolito, a popular late-night taqueria. Sandoval had spent much of his life in the Mission, even though he had been living with a friend’s family in Potrero Hill for the last six years.
On the night of his death, he went out for a visit to his old neighborhood, which was a place he often frequented to meet friends and enjoy the vibrant local scene.
According to Rebecca Muzquiz, a close friend of Sandoval who had been living with her aunt’s family, Sandoval was a kind and supportive presence in their household, often helping out with chores and caring for the family’s dog, Zeus. He was also known for his love of Mexican culture, particularly its food and music. Muzquiz described him as passionate about cooking, dancing, and singing along to ranchera music. He was employed as a mover’s assistant, a job that allowed him to travel to different states, and he often shared photos from his travels with his friends.
Sandoval had no known enemies, and his family and friends were deeply shocked by the news of his death. They described him as a loving person who maintained a close bond with his family, especially his grandmother, Beatrice Miranda, who had raised him. Sandoval also had an estranged young son whom he hoped to reconnect with one day. Despite extensive investigations, no arrests have been made in connection to his murder, and the San Francisco Police Department has asked for the public’s assistance in providing any information that could help solve the case.
