In Muncie, Indiana, on the evening of April 15, 2016, a confrontation with police ended the life of 26-year-old Storm Allen Smith. A Muncie Police officer was dispatched to the 4200 block of East Jackson Street after a report of a threat. The nature of the threat was not publicly detailed.
Upon arrival, an altercation occurred between the officer and Smith. This led to a foot pursuit and a physical struggle.
During the struggle, Smith reportedly gained control of the officer's Taser and aimed it at him. In response, the officer fatally shot Smith.
Following the incident, the Indiana State Police conducted an investigation into the officer-involved shooting. The findings of this investigation were then turned over to the Delaware County Prosecutor's Office for review. After reviewing the evidence, the prosecutor determined that the officer's actions were justified and that no criminal charges would be filed against him. The prosecutor's report concluded that the officer acted in self-defense and in accordance with his training. As a result, no arrests were made in connection with the death of Storm Allen Smith.
