In the late spring of 2016, the life of 26-year-old Billie Ray Young was tragically cut short in his hometown of Gary, Indiana. A graduate of West Side High School, Young's death was a result of gun violence, a fact that would be confirmed by the Lake County Coroner's Office. His passing on or around May 21, 2016, marked another grim statistic in the city's struggle with violent crime.
