In the late summer of 2016, the small community of Graysville, Indiana, was struck by tragedy with the death of 14-year-old Jacob M. Setter. The young man, a resident of Sullivan, passed away on Monday, September 5, 2016, at his home. Born on March 26, 2002, in Port Huron, Michigan, he was the son of Kerry and Cassandra Setter. Jacob was known for his love of the outdoors, often spending his time hunting and fishing.
Initial reports indicated that Jacob was found deceased in a wooded
area behind his residence in Graysville following a 911 call just after noon. Indiana Conservation Officers began an investigation into the shooting death. An autopsy was scheduled in Terre Haute to determine the cause and manner of his death.
Following the investigation and the Sullivan County Coroner's report, Indiana Conservation Officers concluded that Jacob Setter died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Authorities determined that the incident was not related to hunting. Due to the nature of the findings, there were no arrests or suspects in connection with his death. He is survived by his parents, several siblings, and his girlfriend.
