In the autumn of 2016, the life of 43-year-old Samuel Moore of Gary, Indiana, was tragically cut short. On the first of October, his body was discovered in the 1300 block of Harrison Street in his home city. An investigation into his death revealed a grim story of robbery and betrayal.
Authorities determined that Samuel Moore had been shot and killed. The investigation led them to two teenagers: 16-year-old Lacindo Luckett and a 15-year-old girl.
Court records indicated that the girl had been in a relationship with Moore for about two weeks leading up to the incident.
On the day of the murder, Moore and the young girl had attended a family barbecue together. After leaving the gathering, they picked up Luckett. As Moore was driving, Luckett produced a gun and demanded his belongings. When Moore attempted to unbuckle his seatbelt to get out of the car, Luckett shot him twice, striking him in the hand and the chest.
After the shooting, the two teenagers fled the scene, but not before taking Moore's phone and other personal items. The investigation was aided by Moore's family and information found on social media which helped to identify the suspects. The 15-year-old girl eventually confessed to her role in the crime, providing details that led to Luckett's arrest.
As a result of the investigation, Lacindo Luckett was charged as an adult with murder in the perpetration of a robbery, robbery, and auto theft. The 15-year-old girl was charged with robbery in juvenile court.
