Death by Force

Eric James Cole, a 4-year-old boy from Wheatfield, Indiana, tragically passed away on August 5, 2017, due to an accidental gunshot wound. Eric was at the Crown Point home of a family friend who was babysitting him and his sister. According to the Lake County Sheriff's Department, Eric found a handgun in a case under a bed in an upstairs bedroom. He managed to open the case and handle the firearm, which discharged a single round, fatally striking him.
