In the early afternoon of a summer day in Lebanon, Indiana, tragedy struck, forever altering the lives of two families. On June 4, 2018, 17-year-old Jamie Lee Dover, a male resident of Indianapolis, was fatally shot in the parking lot of J&J Muffler on West South Street. The coroner confirmed that a single gunshot wound was the cause of his death. He was born on January 11, 2001, and was known for his love of family, friends, basketball, and bike riding.
The Lebanon Police Department
responded to the incident and found Jamie deceased outside a vehicle. Their investigation quickly led them to a suspect, a 16-year-old male who was present at the scene along with another juvenile witness. The suspect, who was reportedly a close friend of Jamie's, was taken into custody and placed in a juvenile detention facility.
Initial reports suggested the shooting may have been accidental, with a person close to the incident stating that the teenagers were 'clowning around' when the gun discharged. The Boone County Prosecutor's Office filed a petition alleging the suspect was a delinquent child, and if he were an adult, the charge would be reckless homicide.
