In the late summer of 2021, the community of Lebanon, Indiana, was shaken by a brutal act of violence that claimed three lives. On September 8, 2021, police discovered the bodies of 42-year-old Larry 'Beeker' Stogsdill Jr., his 20-year-old son Brannon Martin, and Martin's 19-year-old fiancée, Grace Bishop, inside an apartment on East Walnut Street. The male victims were residents of Lebanon.
All three had been shot in the head in what investigators described as an execution-style slaying.
The investigation into the triple homicide led authorities to 42-year-old Chad Grimball of Thorntown. Evidence found at the scene, including Grimball's DNA on cigarette butts in a kitchen ashtray, linked him to the crime. Authorities stated that the murders stemmed from an ongoing feud between one of the victims and a friend of Grimball. He was already in custody for a separate firearm-related offense when he was served with the arrest warrant for the murders in December 2021.
Chad Grimball, who had a history of violent crimes, chose to act as his own attorney during the trial. Prosecutors presented evidence that after the killings, Grimball and his girlfriend disposed of the. 40 caliber handgun used in the shootings and burned his clothing to destroy evidence. In August 2023, a jury found Grimball guilty on three counts of murder and a charge of carrying a handgun without a license.
In September 2023, a judge sentenced Grimball to 195 years in prison, with the maximum 65-year sentence for each murder charge to be served consecutively. During the sentencing hearing, Grimball expressed remorse to the victims' families, though the families remained unforgiving. Larry Stogsdill Sr., the father of Larry Stogsdill Jr., voiced his profound grief and anger, stating he would never forgive his son's killer. The lengthy sentence ensures that Grimball will spend the remainder of his life incarcerated for what the Boone County Prosecutor called 'heinous and cowardly acts.'
