In the summer of 2019, the quiet community of Medaryville, Indiana, was disturbed by a violent death. On the morning of Thursday, July 25, 2019, 25-year-old Brandon Kyle Messer of Rensselaer and Medaryville was found deceased at a rural residence. The Pulaski County Coroner's Office was called to the scene to investigate. It was soon determined that the young man had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Brandon, a musician who played the guitar and had a passion for art, computers, and
video games, was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy was promptly scheduled to determine the official cause and manner of death. The Pulaski County Sheriff's Department, along with the Indiana State Police, Winamac Police, Pulaski County EMS, Medaryville First Responders, and the Pulaski County Prosecutor's Office, all responded to the incident.
As the investigation into Brandon's death began, law enforcement officials sought to reassure the public that they believed there was no immediate danger to the community. They appealed to anyone with information regarding the case to come forward and contact Detective Sergeant Chris Schramm of the Pulaski County Sheriff's Department.

He was laid to rest at the Independence Cemetery in Medaryville.
