Wesam Sammour, a 34-year-old man, was killed in a shooting on January 3, 2017, in Indianapolis, Indiana. The incident, which also resulted in the death of his co-worker, Ammar Shatnawi, 36, occurred at the Jordan's Fish & Chicken restaurant on the east side of the city where they both worked. Both men were reportedly Jordanian nationals who had relocated to Indianapolis.
The discovery of the two men was made by a relative who became concerned after being unable to reach them by phone
after the restaurant's closing time. Just before 11:00 p.m., two armed individuals entered the establishment in what police described as a 'takeover style robbery.' Surveillance footage captured the two suspects, one wearing a red jacket and the other a dark-colored jacket, jumping over the counter. The fatal shootings took place in the back of the business. The suspects were seen on video leaping back over the counter before fleeing the scene.
Indianapolis Metro Police detectives released the surveillance video to the public in the hopes of identifying the two men. However, the suspects' faces were covered, making identification difficult. Investigators believed robbery was the motive for the attack. In the days following the tragic event, a memorial of candles and flowers grew outside the restaurant as the community mourned the loss of the two men. A significant reward was offered for information that would lead to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the double homicide.
Despite the release of the surveillance footage and the offered reward, the case of Wesam Sammour and Ammar Shatnawi's murders remains unsolved.
