In the summer of 2020, the life of Brent M. Gregory, a 43-year-old white male, was tragically cut short in what police determined to be a murder-suicide. On June 25th, officers from the St. Joseph County Police Department were dispatched to Gregory's residence on Valley Trail in Mishawaka, Indiana, around 12:40 a.m. following a report of an assault in progress.
Upon their arrival, they discovered a grim scene.
Inside the home, authorities found the bodies of Brent Gregory and another man, identified as 43-year-old Kenneth Hunt of Niles. Both men had sustained fatal gunshot wounds, and multiple firearms were recovered at the location. The St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit was called in to lead the investigation into the two deaths.
Subsequent autopsies confirmed the investigators' initial beliefs. The coroner determined that Brent Gregory's death was a homicide, resulting from multiple gunshot wounds. Kenneth Hunt's death was ruled a suicide, caused by a single gunshot wound. With this evidence, authorities concluded their investigation, announcing that they were not searching for any other suspects in connection with the incident.
Brent Gregory was remembered by his community as a talented and creative individual. He served as the executive chef at Holy Cross College at Notre Dame and was also a skilled artist with a passion for restoring mid-century furniture. His sudden and violent death left his friends, family, and colleagues to mourn the loss of a man known for his generosity and vibrant spirit.
