On January 12, 2021, 51-year-old Melissa Smith, a female, was tragically killed in a shooting at a residence on North Pasadena Street in Indianapolis. Another woman was critically injured in the incident but was able to call 911 for help. A third victim, 23-year-old Austin Smith, also lost his life in the shooting.
The surviving victim told investigators that she had arrived at the home with her two-year-old child to find Marcus Minor and Melissa Smith arguing.
Despite her pleas for him not to hurt anyone, Minor opened fire, shooting both women. The child was found unharmed at the scene.
In October 2023, a jury found Marcus Minor guilty of the murder of Melissa Smith and the attempted murder of the second woman. He was found not guilty of the murder of Austin Smith. In March 2024, Minor was sentenced to 95 years in prison for his crimes.
