On January 16, 2021, authorities in Steuben County, Indiana, were alerted to a situation at the Marsh Lake Wetland State Fish and Wildlife Area in Fremont. Upon arrival at the scene, first responders discovered the body of a 46-year-old White / Caucasian male, later identified as Roswald Pall Adkins. He was pronounced deceased at the location. Adkins was reportedly the driver of a vehicle found situated nearby within the wildlife area, which lies near the borders of Michigan and Ohio.
The Indiana State Police launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death, which was initially treated as an unexplained fatality. Investigators determined that Adkins was a resident of Flossmoor, Illinois, and had traveled to the area. Law enforcement officials worked to piece together the events leading up to his discovery in the remote wetland preserve.
Following a review by the Steuben County Coroner’s Office, the manner of death was officially ruled as a suicide. Due to this determination, the investigation concluded without the pursuit of criminal charges. There were no suspects sought or arrests made in connection with the case, as authorities found no evidence of foul play or external involvement in the incident.
