In the winter of 2021, a horrifying act of violence shattered an Indianapolis family, leaving a trail of devastation that claimed the lives of multiple people, including an unborn child. On January 24th, police were called to a home on Adams Street where they discovered a scene of unimaginable carnage. Among the deceased was Khaos Childs, who was tragically killed in the mass shooting.
The victims of this senseless act included Khaos's family members: 42-year-old Kezzie Childs, 42-year-old Raymond Childs Jr., 18-year-old Elijah Childs, and 13-year-old Rita Childs. Also killed was 19-year-old Kiara Hawkins, who was pregnant with a baby boy, who also did not survive. The brutality of the crime sent shockwaves through the community, leaving friends and loved ones to grapple with an immense and sudden loss. Another juvenile male was also shot but managed to escape and survive his injuries.
The investigation into the mass murder quickly led to a suspect within the family's own home. Raymond Childs III, who was 17 at the time of the killings, was arrested and charged with six counts of murder, attempted murder, and carrying a handgun without a license. The motive for the devastating rampage was reported to have stemmed from a dispute Raymond III had with his father about staying out late.
Following his arrest, Raymond Childs III faced a jury trial where the harrowing details of the night of the murders were presented. His surviving brother provided crucial testimony against him. After a five-day trial in October 2024, a jury found Raymond Childs III guilty on all charges. He was subsequently sentenced to 360 years in prison for his role in the calculated and cold-blooded slaughter of his family.
