In the early morning hours of November 6, 2021, a tragedy unfolded in a parking lot in the 5400 block of Massachusetts Avenue in Indianapolis. There, 31-year-old James Lewis Markues Smith, a Black male, was discovered suffering from gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries. A funeral service was held for him on November 20, 2021, at the Williams and Bluitt Funeral Home Peoples' Chapel, where family and friends gathered to mourn their loss.
