In the autumn of 2011, a violent act cut short the life of Craig William, a 30-year-old African-American man in Indianapolis, Indiana. On the night of October 29, he was found with fatal gunshot wounds in a neighborhood on the city's southeast side. The initial moments of the investigation were clouded with uncertainty, as the nature of his injuries led to early suggestions that the fatal wound could have been self-inflicted.
