On November 29, 2021, a quiet residence in Fort Wayne, Indiana, became the scene of a devastating tragedy involving Lisa Renee Long, a 45-year-old White female. Authorities were summoned to the family home located on West Cook Road just before 9:00 p.m. after receiving a desperate emergency call reporting gunfire within the house. Upon arrival, law enforcement officers and medics discovered a harrowing scene where four individuals had sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
Lisa was found deceased alongside her husband, 50-year-old Mark A. Long, and their teenage daughter, 15-year-old Mahala Long.
The investigation conducted by the Allen County Sheriff’s Department and the Allen County Coroner’s Office quickly determined that the violence was an isolated domestic incident. Detectives identified the perpetrator as the couple's 20-year-old son, Samuel Mason Long, who was also found dead at the scene. Forensic evidence and autopsy results indicated that Samuel had shot his mother, father, and younger sister before turning the weapon on himself. The coroner ruled the deaths of Lisa, Mark, and Mahala as homicides caused by multiple gunshot wounds, while Samuel’s death was ruled a suicide.
An elderly relative who was present inside the home at the time of the shooting managed to escape the violence physically unharmed. This survivor, who had been in a bathroom when the firing began, was able to flee the residence and contact 911, alerting police to the unfolding crisis. Despite the swift response of emergency services, there were no life-saving measures available for the four family members.
Because the sole suspect took his own life at the scene, there were no arrests, trials, or criminal convictions related to the case. Law enforcement officials closed the investigation after confirming the murder-suicide nature of the event, stating there was no ongoing threat to the public. The motive behind Samuel’s actions remained unclear to investigators, leaving the community and surviving loved ones with unanswered questions surrounding the loss of Lisa and her family. Memorial services were later held at a local church to honor their lives.
