In the winter of 2022, a long-simmering family feud in Muncie, Indiana, reached its tragic and fatal conclusion. On January 23rd, 52-year-old Timothy Lee Hahn, a male, was shot and killed. The incident, which took place in the 1500 block of South Rochester Avenue, was the culmination of weeks of conflict between Hahn and his cousin, Kenneth Ray Burden.
The disagreement between the two men reportedly stemmed from a theft.
On that Sunday, both Hahn and Burden arrived at the same location within minutes of each other. Witnesses reported that an altercation began when Hahn pushed Burden off a porch. The confrontation then moved into the yard, where Burden allegedly brandished a handgun and fired a single shot, striking Hahn in the chest. Emergency medical personnel were called to the scene and attempted to resuscitate Hahn, but their efforts were unsuccessful, and he was pronounced dead.
In the aftermath of the shooting, Kenneth Ray Burden was located and arrested. He was found hiding in a residence on South Biltmore Avenue and was taken into custody without incident. Burden was preliminarily charged with murder. During the investigation, two other individuals, Angela Kay Doughty, 55, and her son, Jeremy Duane McKee, 36, were also arrested on preliminary charges of assisting a criminal. McKee faced additional charges of possession of cocaine and carrying a handgun without a permit. Burden claimed that he acted in self-defense, stating that Hahn had approached him with a stick. However, witness statements and evidence gathered at the scene led investigators to believe the act was premeditated. The case is currently moving through the legal system, with Burden facing a murder trial. As part of the proceedings, mental health professionals have been tasked with examining Burden.
