In May of 1985, Richard McClelland, the 49-year-old male manager of a Murphy's Mart in Suffolk, Virginia, was the victim of a brutal abduction and murder. After leaving his workplace in Churchland, two assailants forced his vehicle off the road. McClelland was then taken back to the store, which the men proceeded to rob.
