Ripley E. Marston Sr., aged 68, died on February 21, 1989, in Shenandoah County, Virginia. His death was part of a tragic series of events that unfolded on that day. Marston was one of the victims of Dennis Wayne Eaton, who went on a violent rampage that resulted in multiple deaths. Eaton's spree began with the murder of Marston, who was a neighbor. Eaton then killed Walter Custer Jr., a friend of his girlfriend, and later shot a state trooper, Jerry Hines, during a traffic stop.
