In the quiet residential neighborhood of Chesapeake, Virginia, the life of 19-year-old Damonte Lopez Cuffee was tragically cut short. On the night of March 31, 2012, Damonte was the victim of a fatal shooting in the 3000 block of Armentrout Court. Born on October 11, 1992, in Norfolk, Virginia, Damonte was a young man with a job at KFC and was a member of the Philadelphia Church of Christ.
That evening, he was discovered with gunshot wounds and was rushed to Chesapeake Regional Medical
Center. Despite the efforts of medical staff, he succumbed to his injuries, leaving behind a daughter, Aniya Cuffee, his parents, Alice Cuffee and Fred Chesson, and several siblings. His death was a profound loss to his family and the community that knew him. A funeral service was held at New Weeping Mary Baptist Church, and he was laid to rest at Roosevelt Memorial Park.
