In Roanoke, Virginia, a tragic event unfolded on Monday, March 18, 2013, leading to the death of 31-year-old Erin Elizabeth Thomas. Thomas was discovered with a fatal gunshot wound inside her home. The circumstances of her death were determined by investigators to be a murder-suicide.
Alongside Thomas, authorities found 58-year-old Jon Peter McIlroy, also deceased from a gunshot wound. The two were found in an upstairs bathroom of the residence owned by Thomas.
It was reported that a female family member made the discovery and alerted emergency services.
Evidence recovered from the scene included a black handgun found near McIlroy's body, as well as two cartridge casings and a bullet fragment. Police confirmed that Thomas and McIlroy had been living together in the house with her young daughter, but they were not married. The investigation concluded that McIlroy was the perpetrator in the murder-suicide.
