In the quiet community of Oakwood, Virginia, the life of 56-year-old Katherine Diane Cline came to a tragic end on Sunday, September 14, 2014. A United States Navy veteran who had served as a submarine repair person, she was known for her love of gardening, crocheting, and scrapbooking. Her life, however, was cut short in an act of violence that also claimed the life of her husband.
On that Sunday evening, the Buchanan County Sheriff's Office received a call about possible gunshots at
the Cline residence. Upon their arrival, deputies made a grim discovery. Inside the home, they found the bodies of both Katherine and her 45-year-old husband, Dallas Edward Cline. Both had sustained fatal gunshot wounds. A firearm was recovered at the scene, leading investigators to believe the incident was a murder-suicide.
The initial investigation conducted by the Sheriff's Office pointed towards Dallas Edward Cline as the perpetrator in the tragic event. The bodies were sent to the state medical examiner's office in Roanoke for autopsies to confirm the cause of death. The preliminary findings of the investigation suggested that Dallas fatally shot his wife before taking his own life.
In the wake of the tragedy, the community was left in shock. No arrests were made as the primary suspect was also deceased. The investigation concluded that the incident was a murder-suicide, bringing a somber closure to the case.
