Katherine Martell, a 30-year-old woman, was killed on Tuesday, December 18th, in what authorities described as a murder-suicide. Remembered as a vibrant individual just beginning a new chapter in her life, her death sent ripples of shock and grief through her community.
The circumstances of her death were violent and premeditated.
The perpetrator, her ex-boyfriend, intentionally struck her with his SUV before fatally shooting her. After ending her life, he then turned the weapon on himself. This brutal act concluded a history of fear, as family members later revealed that Katherine had been terrified of him in the time leading up to the incident.
Katherine, a resident of Arlington and a graduate of Langston High School, was a mother to a young daughter. She had been working in real estate and as an independent contractor, building a future that was stolen from her. The loss was deeply felt by her surviving family, including her daughter, parents, and brother. In the wake of this tragedy, no arrests were made as the sole suspect died at the scene.
