On a tragic evening in December 2017, the life of 24-year-old Eleni Gabrielle Wright-Bonnette was cut short. The promising young woman, a former standout softball player from Yorktown, Virginia, succumbed to injuries sustained in a shooting that also claimed the life of another woman, 29-year-old Helga Marie Frost. The violent incident unfolded inside a residence on Bellehaven Drive in Gloucester Point, Virginia, on December 11, 2017.
While Frost was found deceased at the scene, Wright-Bonnette was discovered with life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to a hospital, where she tragically died the following day.
The investigation into the double homicide quickly led authorities to identify a suspect. Kenneth Ray Miller, a 39-year-old man from Hayes, Virginia, was arrested in connection with the murders. He was subsequently charged with two counts of first-degree murder and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Investigators determined that Miller had entered the home, engaged in an argument with the two women, and then fatally shot them before stealing a safe. Reports indicated that Miller had a prior connection to Frost.
Further investigation revealed the involvement of two other individuals in the crime. Amanda Epps and Charley Riley were also arrested for their roles in the events leading to the deaths of Wright-Bonnette and Frost. The prosecution of the case resulted in significant prison sentences for the perpetrators. Kenneth Ray Miller was sentenced to 163 years in prison for the murders. Amanda Epps, who pleaded guilty to two counts of felony homicide and a firearm charge, received a 23-year sentence for her part in the robbery and murders. The case against Charley Riley was also moving through the legal system, with a sentencing date scheduled.
