On a cold morning in February 2018, the life of 25-year-old Rachel Elizabeth Brown was tragically cut short in her Waynesboro, Virginia apartment. A welfare check initiated by concerned individuals led police to a grim discovery. Upon their arrival at the residence, officers were immediately alerted to a potential problem when they observed blood on and near the front door.
Inside the apartment, they encountered 36-year-old Jonathan Owen Miller.
As they detained him and proceeded to search the home, they found Rachel Elizabeth Brown with a fatal gunshot wound to her head. Emergency medical personnel pronounced her dead at the scene. The shooting is believed to have occurred sometime before 7 a.m. on that Thursday, February 1st.
Jonathan Owen Miller was arrested at the residence and initially charged with second-degree murder in connection with Rachel's death. However, a grand jury later indicted him on a more severe charge of first-degree murder. He was held at the Middle River Regional Jail without bond as the investigation continued. Reports indicated that a trial date was set to address the charges brought against him in the violent death of Rachel Elizabeth Brown.
