Athina Hopson, a 25-year-old woman from Mendota, Virginia, was reported missing on March 21, 2019. Her remains were discovered and positively identified in the Mendota area in January 2021. The investigation revealed that Hopson had died from a gunshot wound. The suspect in her murder, James Michael Wright, confessed to killing Hopson and two other women in the Mendota community. Wright claimed that Hopson's body fell out of his truck while crossing a bridge over the river.
