In the early morning hours of May 24, 2019, a dispute in a Chantilly, Virginia parking lot turned fatal, claiming the life of 30-year-old Miguel Angel Leiva Hernandez. The incident unfolded around 1:30 a.m. in the 14500 block of Lee Jackson Memorial Highway, where an altercation escalated to gunfire. When Fairfax County police officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Hernandez in the parking lot suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Two other individuals were also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries sustained during the incident.
The man responsible for the shooting, 51-year-old Steven A. Green of Manassas, remained at the scene and waited for law enforcement to arrive. Green was taken into custody without incident, and a firearm believed to have been used in the shooting was recovered. The investigation that followed suggested the deadly encounter began as a confrontation, with some reports indicating a dispute over the use of leaf blowers.
Following the investigation into the events that led to the shooting, Steven A. Green was charged with murder, malicious wounding, and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He was subsequently transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where he was held without bond.
