Brandon Fadden, a 33-year-old man from Centreville, was killed during an early-morning shooting inside a home in Chantilly, Virginia, on July 4, 2026. The violence unfolded as people in the area were beginning the Independence Day holiday, turning what was reportedly a Fourth of July gathering into a fatal incident.
At approximately 1:52 a.m., the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a shooting at a residence in the 43000 block of Helmsdale Terrace.
Deputies entered the occupied home and found Fadden suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite the emergency response, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators quickly determined that the shooting did not represent an ongoing threat to the surrounding community. Later that same day, deputies arrested 31-year-old Chantilly resident Joshua Soroko in connection with Fadden’s death. Authorities did not disclose what reportedly happened before the gun was fired, whether the shooting followed an argument, or the nature of the relationship between Fadden and Soroko.
Soroko was charged with involuntary manslaughter, shooting a weapon inside an occupied dwelling, and reckless handling of a firearm. The involuntary-manslaughter and reckless-firearm charges indicate that authorities were treating the shooting as an unlawful but allegedly unintentional killing rather than alleging that Soroko deliberately set out to kill Fadden. However, the precise circumstances surrounding the handling and discharge of the firearm were not publicly explained.
Following his arrest, Soroko was transported to the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center and initially held without bond. Reports also noted that he had a prior record that included a 2016 Fairfax County conviction for selling marijuana and a 2018 conviction for driving without a license, although those earlier matters were unrelated to Fadden’s death. Other charges filed against him in the past had reportedly been dismissed.
The investigation remained active as detectives worked to establish how the firearm was discharged and what occurred among those inside the residence. No additional suspects were publicly identified, and no trial, plea agreement, or conviction in connection with Fadden’s death had been announced. Authorities continued asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office.
