A promising young life was cut tragically short in the fall of 2019. Fifteen-year-old Tyrone Jermaine Williams Jr. of Richmond, Virginia, died on October 20th of that year. Known affectionately as 'Lil Ty,' he was a sophomore at Armstrong High School where he was an honor roll student. He also attended the Richmond Technical Center, studying in the field of electricity.
Beyond his academic pursuits, Tyrone was actively involved in his community through organizations such as P.A.L., the Powhatan Hut, the Boys and Girls Club, and the Future Leaders Forum for Young Black Men of Richmond. He was known as a kind, lovable, and giving young man who was cherished by all who knew him. His interests included football, basketball, and video games, and he was a devoted fan of the Green Bay Packers.
The circumstances surrounding Tyrone's death were particularly heartbreaking. He was fatally shot in what was determined to be an accidental incident. The shooting occurred in the Fulton Hill neighborhood of Richmond. In the immediate aftermath, a family member was charged in connection with the accidental shooting that led to the teenager's death. This added a layer of tragedy to an already devastating event, leaving his family and community to grapple with the sudden and profound loss of a young man with a bright future. The incident served as a somber reminder of the devastating impact of gun violence, even when unintentional.
