In the small town of Marion, Virginia, a heartbreaking story unfolded in the autumn of 2020. A bright and vibrant 10-year-old Black / African American boy named Jeremih Sean Harley, who was known for his ability to make friends easily, had his life tragically cut short on November 20, 2020. Born in Smyth County, Virginia, on April 28, 2010, Jeremih was described as being full of life and love for everyone he met.
The community was plunged into sorrow when the details of Jeremih's death
came to light. He was a victim in a devastating murder-suicide that also claimed the lives of his younger siblings, 3-year-old Addisyn Nadine 'Addie' Harris and 7-year-old Anthony Trent Harley. The investigation conducted by the Smyth County Sheriff's Office concluded that the children's mother, 27-year-old Jakie Harley, was responsible for their deaths before taking her own life.
In the wake of the tragedy, the community mourned the loss of the young lives. Funeral services for Jeremih and his family members were held on November 25, 2020, at Seaver-Brown Chapel in Marion, followed by a burial at Round Hill Cemetery. As the case was determined to be a murder-suicide with the perpetrator also deceased, there were no arrests made or suspects sought by law enforcement.
