On August 9, 2024, a tragic incident unfolded in Smyth County, Virginia, resulting in the death of Deputy Sheriff Hunter Reedy, aged 27, from Marion, VA. The event began around 5 p.m. when a Marion police officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Route 16. The vehicle initially failed to stop but eventually halted near the intersection of Route 16 and Hatchery Drive.
