On a winter afternoon in Martinsville, Virginia, the life of 20-year-old Jeremiah Jerron Turner, a Black male, was tragically cut short. On January 25, 2021, authorities received a call reporting gunshots at a residence on Lakewood Park Drive. When sheriff's deputies arrived, they found Turner deceased inside his home, having sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
The ensuing investigation would quickly point to a suspect, leading to an arrest in the homicide case.
Investigators determined that a man had come to Turner's home, knocked on the door, and was allowed to enter. Turner and the visitor then went into a bedroom, where the fatal shooting occurred. Shortly after the gunshots rang out, the suspect was seen fleeing the residence. The investigation into the motive for the shooting remained ongoing as authorities began their search for the person responsible for the young man's death.
The suspect was identified as 23-year-old Taylor Paige Thomas of Axton. In a significant development, Thomas surrendered to the Henry County Sheriff's Office. Following his surrender, he was arrested and faced a series of serious charges. These included first-degree murder, the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, shooting inside an occupied dwelling, and three counts of brandishing a firearm. Thomas was subsequently held in the Henry County Jail without bond.
