On an autumn evening in Vinton, Virginia, the life of 38-year-old Gary McMiller was tragically cut short. The male victim was fatally shot on October 11, 2021, in the parking lot of a McDonald's on Hardy Road. The incident was the result of a planned marijuana purchase that escalated into a violent attempted robbery. subsequent police investigation led to the arrest of a 15-year-old, Jeremiah Unique Pannell. It was revealed that Pannell was the driver of a silver sedan that fled the scene. He had driven two other individuals to the McDonald's with the intention of buying marijuana from McMiller. However, the situation took a dark turn when one of Pannell's passengers allegedly threatened and then shot McMiller in a robbery attempt.
