On a tragic evening in Bristol, Virginia, the life of 29-year-old Christopher D. Carter, a Black male, was cut short by an act of violence. On December 8, 2022, Carter and a member of his family were found on Harvey Lane suffering from gunshot wounds to the head. Both were rushed to the hospital, but Christopher succumbed to his injuries. The other victim survived the shooting but was left with severe injuries that necessitated multiple brain surgeries.
The investigation into the double
shooting led authorities to Wynston Rhinehart, who was arrested in connection with the crime. Initially charged with first-degree murder, Rhinehart later pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, aggravated malicious wounding, and firearm charges in a plea deal reached in October 2024. His sentencing was scheduled for January 16, 2025.
Born in Bristol, Tennessee on November 2, 1993, Christopher was a 2012 graduate of Virginia High School. He was known for his love of basketball, with aspirations of one day becoming a coach. He also had a passion for animals and was in the process of working to open a dog kennel. He leaves behind his parents, two brothers, and four daughters.
