In the quiet community of East Dover, New Jersey, the life of 85-year-old Anna Spangler came to a tragic end in November of 2011. She and her husband of 64 years, George Spangler, were discovered deceased in their home by a Meals on Wheels employee. Both had succumbed to gunshot wounds.
Investigators at the scene recovered a firearm and determined that the incident was a murder-suicide. The Ocean County Prosecutor's Office, along with the Toms River Police Department and the Ocean County Sheriff's Department, concluded that George Spangler had shot his wife before taking his own life. The investigation revealed no evidence of any other individuals being involved in their deaths.
Consequently, no arrests were made in connection with the case.
Prior to moving to Toms River in 2001, Anna and George had resided in South Plainfield, where she had worked as a cafeteria worker for the local board of education. The couple had two sons and several grandchildren. The authorities noted that local first aid had been called to the Spangler's home for medical reasons within the year and a half leading up to the tragic event that ended their lives.
