In the early morning hours of March 29, 2015, the life of 26-year-old Tarad Tolliver was cut short on a street in Newark, New Jersey. A Black male, Tolliver was discovered with apparent gunshot wounds in the 100 block of Halsted Street shortly before 3:00 a.m. Police officers had responded to the area following reports of gunfire.
Emergency services transported Tolliver to University Hospital. Despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead at 3:23 a.m.
The investigation into the fatal shooting was taken over by the Essex County Prosecutor's Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department.
In the wake of the shooting, the motive remained unclear to investigators. Authorities appealed to the public for any information that might lead to an understanding of the circumstances surrounding Tolliver's death. However, no suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with the homicide. The case remains an open and ongoing investigation as authorities continue to seek answers.
